Hi All,

So the latest book has been released for ICRPG along with a free update to the core rules on DriveThru RPG (v1.3.5). Props to Runehammer Games for what looks like yet another excellent book. I really like the art style and the concise base rules of the core game. They are 'easy' but not lacking, its a brilliant system to build up from (not one which you need to strip down). So you play what works best for your group and your game.

I'm currently writing some basic rooms for a Harry Potter themed quest to test myself and my Wife. So I will post the Journal entries if anyone wants to see them.

My online Character Creator for ICRPG can be found here : http://icrpg-assistant.epizy.com/
If you spot any errors or want any changes let me know (I need to make 1.3.5 changes and add Ghost Mountain & Beneath the Door).

The latest release is the worlds book:

The ICRPG Google+ group has loads of great resources and tips (which don't just apply to ICRPG but running games in general). The Murder Hobo Show stuff specifically has done some impressive work on Table Top Simulator.

Strike Team Builder has moved!

http://deadzone.freecluster.eu/

Please let me know if you if you experience any issue and I will look into them as soon as possible.

Details/Why:
If you have tried to use the Deadzone strike team builder of late you my have noticed it was down. This was due to the hosting platform version being upgraded and having to migrate to a different hosting service. To enable me to keep the usage of the Strike team builder free I have simply moved it to a different free hosting service.Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13181518595987950098noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4985058183989814758.post-35686563813749579892017-06-27T03:03:00.002-07:002017-06-27T03:03:13.070-07:00Kings of War - Route/Waver CalculatorI am building a new online tool for Kings of War that will calculate chances of Routing or Wavering Units. No sign up or adds it's literally just a single page application designed to work well on phone or tablet.

http://chargecalc-grich.rhcloud.com/

Seen a fair amount of people have made excel sheets which do basically the same with a bit more functionality (which I will be adding in the future). The main difference here is this will function on well on a phone. So can be used easily at table side to give a player a better prediction if their unit is going to bounce or not real time.

The target users are newer players, those using a new army or playing against an unknown army. Just to even the odds for newbies helping them to weigh up the odds. Should I soften up the target with more shooting before charge in?

Testing tonight at the club for the first time so will go by the calculator traffic lights and report back on who won.

All feedback is welcome. I might then expand further for Ranged attacks and/or magic attacks if it proves useful. If you have your own calculator I would really appreciate having a look to see how you have done it so I can check my calculations.

I had a message letting me know that Frenzy was missing. I also found Tough was missing. These have now been added to the Abilities descriptions on PDF, Print View, etc. Let me know if there are any others please.

I have also fixed a bug with the Figure addition which meant that Injuries, xp, rank and V-dice were not added. This affected the PDF generation. All fixed now but as above let me know if you find any problems.

I have realised that there are still no Merc's in the lists so might look into that next.

Have fun folks!!

The Herd peoples of the Remane's tribe that dwell in that land found themselves set upon by creatures which stalked the night. From Medullaās account a small war band consisting of two centaur units armed with either bow or spear had been marked with a nightmare curse drawing the creatures to them. I really liked the theme of evil nightmare creatures. And the army special rules are a brilliant contrast to my Kingdom of Men Army.

So far I have:

Regiment of butchers - Hordes Everblight Nephil minus the wings

Regiment of Blood worms - 40k Tyranid Ripper Swarm

Shadow Hulk - Malifaux Neverborn Lord Chompy Bits

I tried to go for a evil thorns and vines look inspired by a Elder scrolls Oblivion Plane. Managed to get some good looking plant material from an old rose bush I found dead in the garden. Purple being the main colour associated with nightmares had to be the theme.

Have added a PDF generation feature to the Deadzone Team builder which you can use from the edit screen and no longer need to print to file to create a PDF. Please let me know if there are any issues and/or if you find this feature useful.

I found the following to be useful before I played:

Easy Army Firefight online builder EasyArmy Firefight

YouTube Channel for battle reports DreadPathZone - YouTube

Rules
I had a little time to go through the rules before hand which was useful. I would strongly suggest you try to allocate a good block of time to read through before your first game. I found it more difficult to get straight into than say Deadzone or Kings of war which for either I barely check the rules for now.

At the start of the game the added complication of secondary objectives added too many variables for the first game in my opinion. What added the most rulebook checking was the orders system. This is a great system which adds a huge flavour to the game but there is a big learning curve on how and what can be used.

For the rest of it the stat lines are slim lined and simple. Basic action concepts were intuitive and easy to grasp. The rule book was sensibly laid out so it was relatively easy to find the relevant sections. I really wish I had printed out my Force Stats etc though as constantly flicking between the Force section and core rule section was a bit time consuming. Once we got into the rhythm of the game though it flowed really well.

Forces
Both my opponent and I were playing Enforcers which for a first game was handy, as we both had a chance to see what the other was doing with their units and were using the same stat lines. I like the system where there are no limitations of what unit types you can take. Each unit having its perks and flaws being the reason you take it.

My Force
2 Jetbikes
Strider with Polaris Cannon
Strider with Flamer and Chainsaw
Captain - Peacekeeper Armour
Enforcers & Commander
Pathfinders & D.O.G. drone

Opponent Force
4 Jet Bikes
Strider with Polaris Cannon
Peacekeepers
Pathfinders
Heavy Weapon Enforcers & Forward Observer

Outcome
The game started in my favour heavily with some unlucky roles from my opponent and some lucky ones for me. My Polaris Strider basically took his out in two shots. This then meant that my Assault strider had little threat getting stuck in with his flamethrower on his Heavy Enforcer unit with devastating results. Taking out the forward observer, significantly limited his order options.

I lost my Enforcer unit and Jet bikes but had positioned my Pathfinders well allowing me to shoot his Peacekeepers from behind as they charged my main line.

I won out right by destroying all his units but also accrued a good amount of victory points from objectives.

Let me know your thoughts on Warpath and any good combinations for Enforcers.

I finally managed to add google login for the Strike Team builder.

http://deadzone-grich.rhcloud.com/

Hopefully this will mean that lots more users will be able to start saving teams and running campaigns more easily.

If you want to know why I'm using Google and FaceBook Read on:

I have stuck to using FaceBook and Google Logins because then don't have to store either emails or passwords on my database which is more secure for users. This is because all the authorisation stuff is done by those FB or google.

However, if you want to be able to login without Facebook or Google let me know I can sort you out private login for you. Just send me a private message and I will auto generate a password and username. This means that I still don't have to have your emails or potentially common passwords.

As a Web dev I encourage people to use different passwords for everything and store them in something like KeePassX.Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13181518595987950098noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4985058183989814758.post-452799084246986882017-02-11T14:02:00.004-08:002017-02-12T00:30:54.158-08:00Scratch Build Deadzone Board

So here's my first attempt at a custom board. The mats are really nice but I wanted something with an additional level. I've seen several much better boards than the one I have here but I thought I'd post it any way.

The base is 3mm MDF which seemed to work fine was cheap and strong enough. Tiles are a thin tough card cut smaller than 3"x3" to give a well defined edge. I used a paper guillotine and set square to get consistent sizes with straight edges quickly.

After cutting assembly didn't take a great deal of time and PVA held well.

I then used a mixture of PVA, black paint, sand and filler to coat the tiles leaving the road. I could had done with using a runnier mixture with a lesser amount of sand to give better differentiation to the road texture later. I did apply some to the vertical walls, but this was a mistake and is unnecessary if you use something else to cover them as I do later.

I then did a basic PVA and sand road, Next time i might use sand paper and cut into tiles as my sand layer wasn't as consistently flat as I would have liked. I then shaded between the tiles with a homemade black wash. The wash was standard CIF floor cleaner, water and acrylic paint.

I thought all that grey looked bland, so added hazard strips on the road edge. The strips are made from wooden stirrers painted yellow. Taped laterally together to allow me to draw 45 degree angled lines with thick marker and set square. I found this was really fast and looked reasonable enough for me. There's a tutorial here for doing something similar with scotch tape and paint.

Finished off the hazard strips and clad the sides of the platform with textures plastic. Because I'm tight fisted so I used divider file I had lying around but the spray paint is peeling so next time I'll invest in Plasticard or use pillars to support the level (like a high rise carpark).

Finally I thought I'd show it with some of the basic out of the starter box terrain. It adds a nice big line of sight blocker between the sides of the board. In addition to giving height before even putting the buildings on.

In summation it cost me ten pence and a button and was a fun build. I might add a few more detail bits but the Mantic deadzone scenery is such good quality and price I think I might just buy a ton more rather than do too much more work on it. Maybe next time I will just build a base with the card and MDF, really want to try an alien jungle as I have loads of fish tank plant bits.

I Just ran some quick stats on team popularity on the Strike Team Builder so thought I'd share if it interests anyone.

*I normalised the data by removing multiple teams of the same type for one user. Therefore the numbers are calculated for each Faction unique to each User (e.g. 10 Enforcer teams for 1 user counts as one).

The outcome was not overly surprising with Enforcers being the most popular faction by far. This is reflected in reality at least for me as the most popular team at my club are Enforcers. Everything else is pretty much at the same levels with Asterians and Veer-myn teams being created less.

These are only teams which have been made on theStrike Team Builder by logged in users, but fits with what I have seen at the table. I think players probably own more factions but actually use specific ones more frequently and for Campaigns.

Let me know your thoughts and if you think we need a more even spread. Personally I would like to play against a diverse range of Factions but I'm not helping the issue I guess as I only have enforcers that I really play with. I think I have about six unpainted Forge Fathers together, the rest are still on sprue š

Theme : These Enforcers work for the massive multi-system drinks company 'Stardust Cola Company'. Many of their missions involve preventing the loss of, or retrieving Stardust Cola's assets and/or drinks recipes.

Rumours abound to the secret ingredients of their best selling cola and their competitors are ever keen to obtain the evidence to back those rumours. Whether their motive is to extort the company or inform the consumer, this cannot be allowed to happen. After all "Stardust Cola Company is a cheerful, family orientated company" (what could be more wholesome). It has its employees and consumers best interests at heart above all else. Sure it makes a large profit for its investors but it sponsors many charities and sports too. As companies go they truly are a paragon of virtue in these dark times.

You can start a deadzone campaign by clicking the new 'Manage Campaigns' button after logging in. When you have created a campaign you will be the manager and it will be listed in your manage campaigns view with an invitation code.

You can supply this invitation code to your campaign friends who can then use it to join it with their teams. A team may only join one campaign. Once joined the user can see how their team is fairing with 'view campaign for team' button. This lists all the teams which have joined the campaign;Total RP and Campaign points.

Only users can edit their own teams RP Points etc. its literally just a view so its an honor policy I guess. Managers cant change the values. In addition currently there is no delete campaign for the manager or leave campaign for the teams.

This is new and virtually untested so let me know if there are any bugs or errors.
Hope this is useful for people, let me know either way. There is a feedback function on the site or just ping me a comment.

Free Use Deadzone Team Builder

Hi All,

I have created a Deadzone Team Builder for use on single games and campaigns. Features are printing, PDF etc with more functionality for campaign management coming. Easy and secure login for team saving functionality with Facebook. With a view to add google login in the near future.

http://deadzone-grich.rhcloud.com/

It is currently hosted at the above URL but if it gains enough traction I will be able to afford it a proper domain.

Any and all feed back is appreciated.

My main rationale are the resources of time and finances. Although in an ideal world I want a stonking great fully painted army for wargaming, what I really want to do now is play games! I enjoy modelling and painting but not to the commitment level that is required to get an army fielded as quickly and to the extent that I want too.

That for the most part has been the reason my current miniature collection consists of the skirmish style or team games. This is not for lack of desire for epic scale wargaming. Many people I speak to have the same thoughts. One of my friends actively avoids miniatures games to some degree for that exact reason even though he was heavily into Warhammer and other games in his earlier years. He now sticks to card or tiles games generally cool little ones he's found on kickstarter.

This thought stream lead me to finding the following.......

The Three Plains

Rules

I gave the rules a quick read myself and they are very extensive and detailed. However there is a lot to digest and finding an opponent willing to put the time in for a trial game may prove difficult. I found a good full review of the rules on The Shell Case:

The Three Plains Rules Review

Whats Here

Lots and lots and lots of free to use paper models. A full set of free rules, extensive resources and youTube videos of battle reports.

Free Model Downloads

So There are currently a total of four full armies of paper models for free download: Elves, Men, Mercenaries and Orcs
There appear to be more on the way including Dwarves and Summoners. The art is good quality and the variety is huge.

Overall

Simply put a large amount of work has gone into this and it deserves major props to Epic Games and the creator Dave Scholes.

My Uses

So why am I talking about Kings of War? So the rules for The Three Plains are free too and as I said they appear to be detailed, in-depth and well conceived. But I return to my previous point of "what I really want to do now is play games!". Do I invest the time in learning a new rule set (Yes) but I still need to find a friend who wants to learn the rules too. I know the rules for Kings of War, it is a quick game to get in to and also has the benefit of having a current large player base/community. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to field a paper army at my club while I build my model base.

I do want to play The Three Plains (the lore reads nicely, blue magical orc hags!!) I just need to find me an opponent. What I really want is a precident set that paper models are a serious alternative for gamers to get into a rules system.

Any way let me know your thoughts.
Richhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13181518595987950098noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4985058183989814758.post-58436291031381957662015-09-24T02:25:00.001-07:002015-09-24T02:25:40.230-07:00Frostgrave Scenery - Paper Models
Found some great paper models for making some much needed scenery fast and free.

So first game of Freebooter's fate last night and all I can say is no dice....

....AWESOME!!!

In brief

I played Pirates against my opponents Brotherhood. We both had the basic starter sets except for my specialist (I had Spitfire instead, woman with a massive multi-barrelled gun... devastating)

It's a well tested game and has an in-depth and interesting back story for the crews but with a huge element of insane fun (especially with the Goblin crew). All measurements are in metric (the game is German) which I personally preferred but I'm guessing might dissuade those gamers who still use imperial measurements everyday(naming no countries).

As with my previous Frostgrave review (although this game is much older) the scenery is key. The stuff we had available at the club that my opponent made was fantastic. It really added value to the game so lots of building levels, trees, jungle gangways all adding to a rich and absorbing experience. Rather than dice everything is dealt with (pun intended) by cards. Combat is almost a form of more complex Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock. But with corresponding body parts each having an effect on your crew members capability.

For an overview of the rules check out the quick start guide. The Download for the quick start guide is available for free from the website here:

Crews & Starter Sets

I found the Pirates to be good all rounders my crew stood well in combat but had real punch with ranged as well. The brotherhood are sneaky as assassins, they had not a great deal in the way of ranged but compensated by being incredibly fast with lots of special hiding moves, poisons and sneak attack complex moves.

I won't go into each crew but the list of those available is as follows:

Overall

A really great game with a fantastic and different combat mechanic. There is scope for some campaign (in the further books) and it can be scaled up to include other players and crews easily. Its meant for fun crazy so a co-op scenario against waves of zombie octopus' is totally plausible!

So my first game of Frostgrave is over and I can see this is going to be fun in a campaign
game. This was not a campaign game just an initial basic game with no scenario.

Warbands

I played my Enchanter Warband (previously posted) against a my opponent's Thaumaturge. We
both had seven Warband soldiers and an apprentice. It worked well as the wizard and apprentice activations occur first most of the action was
happening in these phases keeping our Warband soldiers close by them. I found starting with lots of low cost soldiers (as recommended by the book)
hugely advantageous to fewer but higher cost soldiers, especially when I looked at the other games being played.

Table Top

The size of table top I found a bit small (2' x 4'). I would have
preferred something more of a square 4'x4' as it would have added better options for treasure placement. As it was all the treasure was in a strip
down the centre of the board. Also our terrain was far too sparse, although initially it felt like a lot. We did not have enough levels the highest
buildings being a single story.

Overview

So for starters I really like my Warband set up and was pleased with my choices in game. For
the board set up we used I found my Warband was balanced for my purposes but I massively overpowered my opponent. I felt sorry towards the end as I
had killed a number of his warband (including the apprentice) and the survivors ended up retreating off the board. I lost none of my own men
(although one of my thugs took some damage at the beginning). Had this been a campaign game it would have been a crippling defeat.

I had two archers and a crossbowman which were integral to my victory. In addition I also
had the Grenade and Telekinesis Spells (both Enchanter spells). This meant I could pull the treasure tokens towards me whilst picking him off at long
range. We didnāt even get a chance for a single melee combat.

I did get some very lucky rolls and my opponent had some unlucky ones when casting magic,
taking damage for miscasting on two occasions.

Suggestions

It was mentioned that in a campaign the wizard gets experience for killing things. This
heavily weights the gaining of experience to those wizards with cheap and effective offensive spells. These include such wizards as Elementalist and
Necromancer. Whilst a more buffing spell wizard like a Thaumaturge is less likely to kill things playing more of a support role to his warband
soldiers.

Overall

Really great game that I'm glad to have invested in. There are answer
to the FAQ's already posted and it is dirt cheap to get into. The community seems to be growing rapidly and campaign expansions are coming out soon
(November I believe). I will try to steal the Wizard sheets from my fellow players and post them for perusal (if they let me) so we can all get a
balanced view on what makes a good starting wizard.
